Eugene Francis Suttle
Eugene Francis Suttle (1909–1989) served as the Comptroller and Auditor General for the Republic of Ireland from 1964〔(Dáil Éireann - Volume 209 - 22 April 1964 ) "The Dáil Éireann nominate Eugene Francis Suttle for appointment by the President to be the Comptroller and Auditor General with effect from the 25th day of April, 1964."〕 to 1973.〔(Dáil Éireann - Volume 265 - 14 March 1973 ) (Effective 15 January 1973) "Mr. Suttle, the former Comptroller and Auditor General, who has retired after a lifetime of service to the State to take up an appointment on the audit board of the Council of the EEC."〕 The Arms Crisis of 1970, which involved the alleged misuse of government funds by two cabinet ministers, occurred during Mr. Suttle's tenure. Although not directly involved in the crisis, he was an ex officio member of the Dáil Public Accounts Committee inquiring into it in 1971.〔(Dáil Éireann Committee of Public Accounts: Final Report - Northern Ireland Relief Expenditure, 2 February 1971 ) ''Mr. E. F. Suttle (Comptroller and Auditor General) was in attendance in an advisory capacity, accompanied by Mr. S. Mac Gearailt.''〕
